This is an actual text exchange between me and one of my former coworkers. She is always telling me I need to pay more attention to people around me, particularly men.
Me: Oh, funny story about Starbucks today.
Kelli:
What's happened?! You noticed people?
Me: Yes! So I was sitting there grading and making quizzes, when I
stretched
and looked around. I noticed this guy staring at me, kind of smiled,
went back to work. Look up again--staring again. So I'm sitting there
starting to feel a tad creeped out because, well, I'm feeling a bit
watched. Then this baby toddled over and started staring at me and I
thought I must have put my shirt on wrong side out or something because
this was a lot of staring. Obviously, whatever I'd done wrong in dress
was blatant enough for the queer-eyed baby to catch it. Finally, I got
up to head to the gym, and the
guy (not the baby, who was also a guy, but a very little guy--not sure
he even counts) kind of waved. As I cranked up my
car, I had this ah-ha moment and felt kind of stupid.
Kelli: I have to start hanging out at Starbucks w you.
Me: You like babies?
Kelli: I tolerate them at a distance. Plus I'd have that guy buying you tea.
Me: Hey, I get half points, right? I mean, I noticed multiple people. I was creeped out by them, but I did notice them. I
also noticed that the store only had 5 music tracks today, and one guy
at the end of my table kept singing along with "When a Man Loves a
Woman," which automatically made me loathe him because that song is
horrific.
Kelli: ...
Me: So points for Brittany?
Kelli: Glad you observe all creepiness. Detectives move over.
